At Caresies, ID verifications are a mandatory requirement for all carers before they can apply for jobs. This verification is completed via Stripe, a trusted and secure service, which ensures that every nanny or babysitter on our platform has been thoroughly vetted for their identity before they apply for a role. This process significantly reduces the risk of fraudulent profiles and provides parents with comfort around the carers on the platform. 

• 2. Right to Work Checks: Legal compliance is another critical aspect of safety. The Caresies team conducts optional right-to-work checks for all carers, whether they present a passport, visa, or other relevant documentation. By validating these credentials, we ensure that every caregiver on our platform is legally eligible to work in New Zealand, which not only protects your family but also upholds legal standards. 

• 3. Police Vetting: A police vetting check provides an additional level of comfort of a carer’s background by ensuring they have no criminal history that could pose a risk to your child. A vetting check is more comprehensive than a criminal record report and assesses the risk of the carer operating in an in-home childcare role. Caresies offers police vetting checks as part of our service, and unlike other platforms where this might cost around $50, we provide this service free of charge. Once a vetting check has been completed, the icon next to their profile name will turn green. If you’ve had a carer apply, but they haven’t completed a vetting check, make sure they do. 

• 4. Secure Messaging: To further protect families from potential spam or fake profiles, Caresies has implemented a secure messaging system. Carers cannot message parents unless they have applied for a job and been approved for communication. This feature not only reduces the chances of unwanted messages but also ensures that every interaction on the platform is between verified, legitimate users, fostering a safer and more reliable environment. 

• 5. Additional Services via Our Partnership with Dream: In our commitment to providing comprehensive support, Caresies has partnered with Dream to offer additional services that further enhance the safety and convenience of in-home childcare. Through this partnership, parents can access a range of services, such as advanced vetting options, access to ECE funding and more. These additional resources are designed to help you create the safest possible environment for your child while also supporting the professional development of caregivers.

Future Safety Features Coming to Caresies

First Aid Certifications: Understanding that health and safety are top priorities for parents, we are planning to introduce a feature that allows carers to upload their First Aid certifications directly to their Caresies profile. This will make it easy for parents to verify that their chosen caregiver is equipped with the necessary skills to handle emergencies, should they arise. By showcasing these certifications, carers can demonstrate their commitment to safety, giving parents greater confidence in their ability to provide high-quality care. 

• 2. Education Checks: In addition to First Aid certifications, we are also working on implementing education checks for carers on our platform. This feature will allow us to verify the relevant qualifications of caregivers, ensuring that any applicable qualifications are suitable verified. Whether it’s a formal childcare qualification or specialised training in early childhood education, parents will be able to view these verified credentials, adding another layer of trust and assurance. 

• 3. Reference Checks: To provide a more comprehensive view of a carer’s experience and reliability, we are looking to introduce the ability for carers to add reference checks from past employers directly to their Caresies profile. These references will be verified and available for parents to review, offering insights into the carer’s performance and conduct in previous roles. Importantly, this feature will include references from all past jobs, not just those completed through Caresies, giving parents a broader understanding of the carer’s capabilities and trustworthiness.
