Queue the cliché sales pitch for Caresies!

With Caresies, we provide parents all the tools to find a babysitter or nanny themselves without the additional cost of paying an agency or third party to help them find. It’s also a lot safer than using other methods like Facebook groups.
In terms of the safety features available on Caresies:
- Carers must be ID verified before they can apply for a job
- Carers (and parents) have the option to complete police vetting checks and right to work in New Zealand checks. You can easily view which of these Carers have completed these. Once they are done and approved, they’ll be mark completed on their profile
- All babysitter payments can be managed via Caresies, so no cash has to trade hands
- Parents can also access additional vetting services like interviews, reference checks and employment contracts
Safety features aside, Caresies is a modern platform that’s easy to navigate on both mobile and web. If you are interested to get started, or check it out you can register for free here.
If you don’t want to do it yourself, need more dedicated services or you are looking to hire an Au Pair, then you might want to check out some of the nanny agencies in Auckland that we often work with:
1. Red Robin
2. Dream
3. Au Pair Link
We’ve worked with these agencies a lot, and they are great at what they do.
How much should I pay for a Nanny or Babysitter?
Before diving in to posting a job and searching for babysitters of nannies, it’ll be important for families to note how much they should actually pay their Carer. Setting a price that’s fair and at the market rate will help find better quality Carers too.
We recently wrote a more detailed article around the cost of hiring a nanny, which you can check out here.
Average rates for Nannies and Babysitters in Auckland
- Nanny Pay Rate: For nannies, the average hourly rate in Auckland is around $30 p/hour. For the rest of the country, it’s slightly lower at $29 p/hour.
- Babysitter Pay Rates: Babysitters tend to be paid around the same as a nanny, and sometimes more given the short-term nature of the work. The average asking rate for a babysitter on Caresies averages between $25 and $30 p/hour
Of course, when it comes to pay rates, it always “depends” as it’s contingent on how experienced the nanny or babysitter is, how many hours they’re needed for and whether additional qualifications are required.
On Caresies, when you post a job, you can set a range for the hourly rate. This helps set expectations for Carers applying for the role. If you click on a Carer’s profile, you’ll also be able to see what their expected hourly rate is, which helps provide some ideas around what the going rate is.
How to Post a Babysitter or Nanny Job on Caresies
Posting a job on Caresies to find the ideal babysitter or nanny for your family is a simple and straightforward process. To get your post live, you can follow the steps below.
Before beginning, make sure that you have created an account, verified your email and are logged in. If you haven’t yet created an account, you can do that here. Setting up takes around 5 minutes and you won’t be charged, or need credit card details, just to create an account.
Before posting: Complete the mandatory onboarding tasks
- There’s some basic safety checks we need for users before you can post a job
- The tasks required should grey out as you complete each one.
Step One: Navigate to the "Post a Job" Section
- Once logged in, head over to the "Post a Job" section from your dashboard. This is where you’ll start creating your job listing.
Step Three: Choose the location & job type
- Add the job location or your home address. The address won’t be visible to anyone but the post code and address helps to match you with Carers located close to you
- Select whether you are hiring a nanny or a babysitter.
- A babysitter is usually a one-off engagement with no plans for ongoing work
- A nanny is a Carer required for recurring/ongoing work
Step Four: Add the Job Information
- This is the section where you will add all the nitty gritty information around the title, the tasks required, the dates required and pay rates
- We recommend making the job description section as long and detailed as possible. The more detail you have, the more appealing it will likely be to a potential Carer.
Step Five: Adding Payment Information
- Before you can complete the job, you’ll need to make sure that you have an active credit card
- If you haven’t added a credit card yet, the system should prompt you, otherwise you can head to My Account > Billing > add a new payment method
- If you have a promo code, you can add that here as well and the discount will be applied to the price
- If you are hiring for a babysitter, you won’t be charged at all at this point and that will only happen after the job is completed.
Step Six: Review and publish!
- Have a quick check through and make sure you’ve included everything that you need to
- When you’re ready, select Post Job and voila your job should be live!
- If you need to make changes, you’ll still be able to do it after it’s posted.
Like everything, if you need help along the way, aren’t sure about something or just need a helping hand. Then just contact us and we’ll be more than happy to assist.
Inviting Carers to Apply for Your Job
After you’ve posted a job, nannies and babysitters in the area who are actively looking for work will be sent a notification letting them know there’s a new job to check out. If they’re interested, they’ll apply and you can then go through the process to screen them.
We also recommend going through and searching actively for Carers who you think would be a good fit for your role. To search for Carers, you can follow the steps below:
1. On the dashboard of Caresies, navigate to search
2. Use the filters on the left to filter down nannies and babysitters that meet what you are looking for
3. You can also use the search box at the top of the page to search by an area, say Auckland
Once you’ve filtered Carers that you think would be a suitable fit, you can click on their profile pages to see more information. Just note, as a security measure, you will only be able to see their first name and first initial of their last name, until they apply for a role.
If you see Carers that you would like to have apply for your job:
- Click on the Carer’s profile
- If you want to invite them to apply select invite to apply and they’ll be sent a specific job invite
- If you want to add them to your favourites, for later, select save for later.
Inviting and favouriting Carers is a great way to stay active on Caresies and helps Parents to be pro-active in finding a perfect nanny or babysitter for their family.
What to do once Carers start applying for your role?
If you are posting a babysitter role, or a full-time nanny position, it’s likely that you’ll start to get a lot of applicants for it, pretty quickly!
- When a Carer applies for a role, you’ll receive an email notification. You can also login to Caresies and click on the job on your dashboard.
- To review who has applied for the job, you can go to the “Review Applicants” section. Just note, that as a safety feature, we don’t allow parents to view or respond to applicants unless they have completed an ID verification. The ID verification should take around 5 minutes and is managed securely via Stripe, a third party platform
- When a Carer applies for a job, it will also send you a message, which you can review and respond to on the Messages tab
- Carers make a lot of effort applying for jobs, so we recommend replying to each one (even if it’s to say they haven’t been progressed) so they are aware on the status of their application
- On the Review Applicants tab, you’ll be able to shortlist your favourites or archive the ones that maybe weren’t what you are a looking for
Before hiring, make sure you do all the normal checks that you would. If you need a police vetting check, contact us. If you want a more thorough vetting check, we have partnered with Dream to provide more in-depth vetting at an additional cost.
When you are ready to hire:
1. Go to the Review Applicants Tab
2. Select the Carer that you want to hire for the role
3. Select the Hire button on the pop-up screen
4. Complete all the necessary details for the job offer
5. Send!
Once a job offer has been sent, it’ll be sent through to the Carer and they can then accept or decline the offer (hopefully accept!). Once they’ve accepted it, you’ll be notified and can start planning for them to begin work.
